On August 23, 2024, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Nigeria. She is the second female Justice to take over the helms of affairs at the Supreme Court as Justice Olukayode Ariwoola took a bow at the required age of 70.

She follows the footsteps of Justice Aloma Mariam Muktar who held the position between 2012 and 2014. Justice Kekere-Ekun, acclaimed to be one of the pioneer African Women in law, has blazed a trail of excellence in her career. She is the fifth and youngest female to be appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and is a judicial officer that moved through every step of the ladder on the bench to the top.

She was twice awarded the Distinguished Trailblazers Awards by the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (August 2012 and 2014). Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun’s new feat in the judicial system in Nigeria is a proof that with continous hardwork , dedication, women can take up serious positions in any sector. Hon.

Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as she is fondly called is described as a woman, who has achieved success in many areas where she is appointed to head. She is said to be a role model to thousands of young female lawyers both in Nigeria and around the world where she has chaired meetings. Her work and upward mobility in her career have also inspired many to persevere in the learned scholars profession.

Now as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria, a lot is expected from Justice Kekere-.
