In recent months, the Kolkata Metro has witnessed an unprecedented surge in its popularity among commuters from Kolkata and the adjoining districts.

This increased patronage is a testament to the metro’s efficiency and the public’s growing preference for rapid, hassle-free urban transit solutions. Data from the latest quarter—May, June, and July 2024—highlights a significant spike in usage, with the system accommodating over 5.3 crore passengers across all lines.

Blue Line Dominates Rider Figures Dominating the stats, the Blue Line alone accounted for more than 4.6 crore passengers, underlining its critical role in the daily commute of millions. The route’s extensive connectivity and reliable service appear to be key factors driving its high ridership.

Green Line-2 and Other Lines Show Steady Growth The Green Line-2, while smaller in scale compared to the Blue Line, still posted substantial numbers, with 36 lakh commuters utilizing this segment of the network. Particularly noteworthy is the Howrah Maidan to Esplanade stretch, which saw about 12.4 lakh riders in July, spotlighting the growing utility of newer metro expansions.
