Prayagraj: Activists of Janhit Karni Samiti , Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday burnt the effigy of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Mutthiganj on the charges of protecting the killers involved in the Kolkata woman rape and murder case. The activists also burnt the effigy of the killers and demanded the BJP-led NDA govt to do justice by the victim by taking the case to a fast-track court. Activists also alleged that anarchy and lawlessness were prevailing in the entire West Bengal and the TMC govt was protecting the goons.

Samiti’s national president, Rajesh Kesarwani, said, “Mamata Banerjee-led TMC govt was protecting the criminals and as a result, the cases of murder and rapes pertaining to women are on the rise.” He added, “Goons are making a mockery of law and order in West Bengal and Mamata Banerjee was acting like a mute spectator.” The activists also demanded the central govt to dismiss the West Bengal govt and maintain law and order.

On Saturday night, scores of girl students of Allahabad University (AU) also took to the streets and carried out a protest march from Hostel Road to Balson Crossing and shouted slogans like “Suno Draupadi shastra utha lo, ab Govind na ayenge” and “Jab tak aurat tang rahegi, Jung rahegi - jung rahegi.” They also claimed that it took around seven years to do justice in the Nirbhaya case and questioned how long women will continue to be sufferers. A student of LLB in the final year said, “At a time when we are talking.
