Kneecap KNEECAP has been selected to represent Ireland in the Oscar International Feature Film category at the upcoming 97th annual Academy Awards. Based on the original story of the Irish-language rap group , the film stars the band’s Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí in their acting debuts alongside Academy Award nominated Michael Fassbender. Set in West Belfast in 2019, it chronicles how fate brings the trio together and how they then go on to 'change the sound of Irish music forever'.

Read more: Watch: First trailer released for KNEECAP's award-winning film Read more: Release date announced for award-winning KNEECAP film KNEECAP was selected by IFTA’s 2024 Selection Committee, including Oscar-nominated actor Stephen Rea, award-winning directors Colm Bairéad and Lisa Mulcahy, award-winning actors Liam Cunningham and Bríd Ní Neachtain and award-winning producer Rebecca O’Flanagan. The film lands in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on August 8. KNEECAP film received its World Premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in January this year, where it won a NEXT Audience Award, the first Irish language film to win at the festival.

It went on to play at Sundance London, and was the opening film of Galway Film Fleadh, where it won three prizes including the Audience Award. Watch the KNEECAP trailer below..
