When we published news of the trial of three “fancy dongas” in Forrest Drive, Kings Park, we suggested readers have their say. In the history of this Travel supplement, we have never received such a sustained volume of correspondence on any subject. And so we feel it is our responsibility and duty to continue giving our readers this space, to have your say on this important community issue.

The trial of the Heyscape tiny cabins ends on July 28. Stephen Scourfield, Travel Editor + HAVE YOUR SAY The Friends of Kings Park management committee has come out in opposition to the trial of short-term accommodation in the park. There is a survey where the public can comment on the trial, at The Friends of Kings Park website: tinyurl.

com/mr3tvbe8 + CAMPING IN KEW GARDENS? Firstly, thank you Stephen for bringing this to public notice. I am a member of a group named the Kings Park Walking Group, who walk twice a week in the park. We were horrified to see these mobile cabins in what one has always understood to be a unique bushland environment in the heart of the city.

Our forefathers had the foresight to set aside this land to enable future generations to experience the territory as seen by the early settlers. It has undergone changes to increase the botanical areas but the bushland has remained much the same. Now Premier Cook thinks we the public, should embrace a new era and consider accommodation and increased hospitality in what is an A-Class reserve.

WHY?? We have accommodation .
