King Charles and Queen Camilla are planning to send chefs to India to be trained how to make dishes they enjoyed on their stopover on the way home. The royal couple stayed at a £3,000-a-week luxury holistic spa resort on their way back from their trip to Australia and Samoa. Spread over 30 acres of scented orchards, the Soukya retreat in Bengaluru, southern India , has 21 deluxe rooms, private gardens and open-air showers.

It made the perfect place for the King, who is being treated for cancer, and his wife, to recuperate after the trip. The pair enjoyed yoga sessions and treatments at the venue that has been attended by the likes of Dame Emma Thompson and the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu. However, it was the Bengaluru food that struck the royal couple the most, so they are hoping to send chefs there to learn how to recreate their favourite meals.

Dr Isaac Mathai, who runs the retreat, said they hope to continue eating this food back in the UK. He said: “They love the food to the extent that they are ready to bring down their royal chefs to India and train them – and have often expressed their wish to do so. “One time, she (Camilla) wanted us to pack the soup we make here and take it with her on her private jet, we of course agreed!” He offered an open invitation for them to return, adding: “Of course, we are very excited to see them again at Soukya.
