Born in Kagiso, a township situated just south of Krugersdorp in Johannesburg, Mosimane has done and seen it all in the Beautiful Game. The former Jomo Cosmos, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns striker's success has seen him coach the likes of Bafana Bafana, The Brazilians, SuperSport United and Al Ahly, amongst others. "Coach Pitso is a beacon of light.

He's become a model to South African coaches to aspire to. He is an inspiration to South African coaches, he's been there," Khan says, speaking to this publication. "He has coached both locally and in Africa.

In the coaching fraternity, he has the respect of all his peers. "Receiving the [honorary] doctorate [from the University of Johannesburg] says a lot about his achievements. Coming from very humble beginnings and being able to achieve what he has, it's very fantastic, and now he is also involved in starting development projects, which means he is ploughing back into football.

"I think we should applaud this man on his birthday and give him his flowers while he is still alive," adds the ex-Kaizer Chiefs assistant. Khan reveals that what differentiates Mosimane from his peers is his ambition and drive, having won countless trophies in his career as a coach. "He will do anything in his power to succeed.

At Sundowns, he used to stay the entire day preparing. That work ethic and discipline sets him apart from most coaches. "It's possible, but it will never be easy to match his achievements.
