Residents of Kelowna and Lake Country are being encouraged to improve their city’s urban canopy with the purchase of a new tree at a discounted rate. Kelowna’s NeighbourWoods and Lake Country’s CounTREE programs offer a limited number of trees for sale for $50, a discount of about $100.
In Kelowna, residents can purchase one of eight tree varieties that are available for pre-order Aug. 27 until Sept. 17, or until they are sold out.
“We always look forward to delivering the NeighbourWoods program each year, and with over 7,500 trees sold since the start of the program, we know that residents look forward to it too,” said Todd Cashin, Urban Forestry Supervisor. “When trees are ready for pick up at the end of September, it will be the perfect time to plant trees in our region. We hope residents will join us in purchasing one of these beautiful trees at a great discount and, at the same time, helping to increase our urban tree canopy.
” Kelowna residents can order online or by calling 250-469-8800. Lake Country residents can order their tree online or in person at municipal hall. Five varieties are available but two are sold out already.
Ordering will continue until the trees are fully sold out..
