Thursday, November 7, 2024 Kathmandu Airport begins a five-month, 10-hour nightly shutdown starting Friday, enabling critical upgrades to enhance infrastructure and passenger experience. Starting November 8, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu will undergo a temporary daily closure for essential maintenance work. The airport will be shutting down operations for 10 hours each day over the next five months, specifically to allow for taxiway expansion and improvements.

This daily 10-hour closure, scheduled from 10 p.m. to 8 a.

m., will impact both domestic and international flights at TIA. The closure is designed to provide a safe environment for the construction team to complete necessary upgrades efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to daytime travel.

Bachchu Ram Shrestha, the Operations Manager and acting spokesperson for TIA, confirmed that these maintenance-related closures will continue until March 31. The maintenance period is critical for enhancing the airport’s infrastructure, which will ultimately support increased traffic and improve passenger flow. With the airport’s temporary adjustments, travelers are advised to check their flight schedules carefully and stay updated on any potential changes during this maintenance phase.
