Kate Garraway was visibly moved on Good Morning Britain as she discussed her late husband Derek Draper. Joined by co-host Sean Fletcher and entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold, the conversation turned to Kate's potential third win at the National Television Awards for her latest documentary, Derek's Story. The documentary is in the running for Best Authored Documentary at the NTAs, alongside other notable works such as Rose Ayling-Ellis' Signs for Change, Rhod Gilbert's Stand Up To Cancer piece A Pain in the Neck, and offerings from Robbie Williams and David Beckham.

Richard Arnold commented on her chances: "If you go home with that gong it'll be a hat-trick." To which Kate responded: "It will be a hat-trick apparently you never win three. But I would love it to do well, I would love people to recognise it because it's Derek's story and also it was really all about carers.

Unpaid and paid. I'd like them to get some focus, really," reports the Mirror . Richard concurred: "Amen to that.

" The series of documentaries has been a heartfelt project for Kate, highlighting the critical role of carers, especially during the later stages of Derek's life. Her emotional investment in the subject was evident on the show. Kate has previously won two NTAs for her documentaries, Kate Garraway: Caring for Derek in 2022 and Finding Derek in 2021.

Tragically, Derek passed away at the age of 56 after a prolonged battle with long Covid, which had left him comatose. Kate issued a heart-wrenc.
