Lucknow: Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is a life-saving technique for premature babies , requiring the baby to be attached to the body for a total of eight hours at different times, leading to rapid health improvement . This information was given by Prof SN Singh , department of paediatrics, KGMU during a breastfeeding awareness week workshop at RMLIMS on Tuesday. Prof Singh emphasized that the baby should be attached to the body for at least two hours at a time, four or more times in 24 hours.

Dr Deepti Agarwal, HoD of Paediatrics at RMLIMS, said that 30 out of 100 babies are born prematurely, slowing their overall development, and KMC helps in their growth. The care can be provided by anyone related to the baby. The workshop was attended by faculty members, doctors, and staff.
