Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film, Emergency, which explores the period of political turmoil during former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's emergency rule from 1975 to 1977, is facing severe backlash from Sikh organizations across India. Scheduled for release on September 6, the film has sparked controversy due to allegations that it misrepresents Sikh history and distorts facts. Emergency Controversy The film's trailer, released on August 14, has become a focal point of dispute.

Despite amassing over five million views, it has garnered only 461 likes, reflecting widespread discontent. Sikh groups argue that the trailer misrepresents their community, particularly through its portrayal of Khalistani separatist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. The trailer features a dialogue attributed to Bhindranwale that declares, "Your party wants votes, and we want Khalistan.

" This has angered Sikh groups, who assert that Bhindranwale never made such a demand, as per reports. Accordingg to India Today , the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has voiced strong objections, sending letters to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging a ban on the film. They argue that the film could incite hatred and further misrepresent the Sikh community.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has also issued a legal notice demanding the removal of the trailer and a public apology, citing that the portrayal of Bhindranwale is his.
