A new boutique with a unique style has opened in Fort Madison. Nestled between Pool 19 Plants and Records and Harvestville Mercantile at 618 Seventh Street, owner Jacob Ferguson has curated an eclectic collection of clothes and other items in a small space he calls Juny. Ferguson told the Fort Madison Chamber Ambassadors that he comes from a fashion background and worked for a Japanese company in New York.

“They manufactured there, so I got to see the ins and outs of working at a design office, but was in all the factories and everything. So I learned a lot about clothing and I designed a small line,” he said. “And I’ve been collecting clothes for a really long time.

” In Juny, Ferguson said, texture and color are important design elements. “It’s just kind of a curated shop, just one perspective, I guess,” he said. “It’s cool to be downtown.

It feels like things are happening around and there’s a lot of energy and a lot of hope and stuff. Really cool to be part of it.” The name Juny came from multiple inspirations.

“I’m not the biggest astrology person, but my sign is cancer, which is June and July and Juny is kind of a combination of June and July,” he said. “So it’s a reflection of my personality, I guess. Also June is my birth month.

” It’s also when the house he bought got completely demolished by last year’s derecho. “It’s a blessing in disguise,” he said. “Built in ‘74 and needed some work.
