Pune: The Pune Rural police on Monday arrested a man (45) from Junnar taluka on the charge of bludgeoning a woman (62) to death. An officer from the Junnar police said the woman stayed alone in her house. The suspect, her neighbour and a casual worker, had harassed her for the past few months.

He has been charged under section 103-1 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), said the officer. The murder came to light on Sunday morning when the victim’s nephew found that she was not responding. He alerted the police and the woman’s son, who is attached to the Pune city police.

The woman was taken to the rural hospital in Junnar, where doctors pronounced her dead. “The post-mortem report confirmed that she was bludgeoned with some blunt object. She had received blows on her head, face, hands, and private parts,” the officer said.

A relative of the woman told the police that on Saturday (Aug 3), the suspect threatened to kill the victim. “During questioning, the man admitted to his involvement in the murder,” he said.
