Undeniably, the Filipinos are among the people across the globe who are into eating pork and pork products. In fact, a lot of Pinoys prefer eating pork that fish products.

However, in the recent months, the hog raisers are not getting as much as they used to. The decline of the pork consumption is due to the outbreak of the African Swine Fever or more popularly called the ASF. It is a highly contagious viral disease of pigs and it comes along with a high mortality rate.

Amid the outbreak of the ASF in the country last year, countless hog raisers lost their source of income after losing all their pigs to the disease. In fact, there are several hog raisers who have yet to return to the hog raising industry. Kananga, Leyte is one of those hit by the ASF .

Amid the outbreak of the ASF then, most of the consumers turned to chicken and fish products. Several hog raisers struggled in selling their pork products as many consumers are hesitant to purchase it amid the outbreak of the disease that targets pigs. Even the backyard hog raisers were greatly affected by the impact of the ASF outbreak that can still be felt until now.
