“ Daily Show ” host Jon Stewart said Vice President Kamala Harris ’ campaign had a “secret weapon” that was supposed to help defeat Donald Trump . That’s the campaign’s record fund-raising haul , which was used in part on a massive ground game . Volunteers knocked on 5 million doors in Pennsylvania alone, where some voters said they had two or three visits from campaign workers.
“You know, if there’s one thing people love more than someone appearing randomly at their door once, it’s that same fucking person coming back two or three times to talk politics,” Stewart said. “Even though everyone from vacuum salesmen to Jehovah’s Witnesses know that’s a losing strategy ― in fact, they’ve known that for decades ― let’s just spend a quarter of a billion dollars on it.” He said the Harris campaign repeatedly insisted that democracy was on the ballot and hired lawyers around the nation ready to fight Trump after the election.
The campaign also enlisted county clerks, secretaries of state and others in the effort. Other news outlets have retreated behind paywalls. At HuffPost, we believe journalism should be free for everyone.
