Having directed the two “Joker” films, writer-director Todd Phillips confirms that he’s ‘done’ with further DC Comics adaptations. Phillips’ first “Joker” made over $1 billion and won Joaquin Phoenix the Best Actor Oscar, the film proving a true sensation at the time. The sequel arrives in cinemas today amid a wave of hype, but also a quickly spiralling public sentiment.

Speaking with , Phillips indicated he wasn’t interested in doing a third “Joker”. He was then asked if he would ever want to do a standalone film for Lady Gaga’s character to which he responded: “It’s not really where this movie is headed for me. I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.

” The quote comes as the film, which was riding high before its premiere at Venice, has subsequently seen its review scores and box-office projections tank. What was at one time a 61% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes has today fallen to 39% (5.2/10) as more reviews have come in from regular non-festival critics.

Domestic box-office projections are down to around $50 million – or half of what they were just over a month ago – putting its opening in the range of “The Flash” and “The Marvels”..
