Wednesday, August 14, 2024 Jetstar Asia has revealed its plans to become the first low-cost carrier to offer direct flights from Singapore to Colombo, Sri Lanka, with services set to commence on November 21, 2024. This strategic move by Jetstar Asia is poised to significantly influence the travel industry, particularly by making Sri Lanka a more accessible destination for travelers seeking affordable travel options. Starting from November 21, 2024, Jetstar Asia will operate five weekly return services between Singapore and Colombo, utilizing its Airbus A320 fleet.

This initiative is expected to add more than 90,000 low-fare seats between the two destinations annually. The flight schedule has been designed to cater to different traveler needs, offering both morning and evening departures from Singapore’s Changi Airport. These flights are also conveniently timed to connect with Jetstar Airways’ daily service from Melbourne and up to six weekly flights from Perth.

The introduction of these direct flights is anticipated to be a significant boost for Sri Lanka’s tourism sector. According to Chalaka Gajabahu, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, this new route will open up numerous opportunities for travelers to explore Sri Lanka. The accessible fares, starting at SG$149 one-way, are expected to attract a broader range of tourists, including those seeking adventure, romantic getaways, or family vacations.

This move aligns with the ongoing recovery of the touris.
