Jeremy Clarkson's new pub opened its doors for the first time last week and while some punters branded it a "the greatest pub in the world " others were left less than impressed. The Farmer's Dog in Asthall, near Burford in Oxfordshire , opened to the public on Friday, August 23 after being renamed and renovated by the former Top Gear presenter. Hundreds of people piled into the car park, queuing for hours just to get a taster of the food and enjoy a Hawkstone beer , served by the man himself.

Prior to opening Oxfordshire County Council said it had worked "closely and pro-actively" with Mr Clarkson's team ahead of the opening amid concerns the nearby roads would not be able to cope with the cheer volume of visitors expected. "Several measures have been taken to reduce the likelihood of traffic and parking related problems, and to support the safe and successful opening of the site," a council spokesman said. In a post on X on Thursday evening, he wrote: "Credit where credit is due. Our new pub opens tomorrow and this might sound odd but I'd like to thank Oxfordshire County Council for all their help. We couldn't have done it so fast without you.
