Jax Taylor is writing his own rules when it comes to his divorce. Although estranged wife Brittany Cartwright was the one who filed for divorce in August after five years of marriage, the Vanderpump Rules alum is now saying that he was the one who initiated the split. “The second weekend of rehab, I emailed Brittany and said, ‘I'm getting a mediator,’” he revealed on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast on Nov.

14, per People . “People don't realize that I'm the one that initiated this." According to Jax, his message was what prompted Brittany to get an attorney.

"She was like, ‘Oh, no, I'm getting a divorce lawyer.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, whatever,'" the 45-year-old continued. “I think she wanted to be the first one to serve me papers publicly.

" And though Jax agrees their breakup "needed to happen," he believes she had other motives for filing first. “I think she wanted to get ahead of it while I was in there. I think she wanted to be the first to publicly say, ‘I'm divorcing him,’ when, in all honesty, I was the one that initiated it," Jax alleged.

“I just think that I blindsided her a little bit. I think she really, really wanted me to work on the marriage. I think that was her goal.

And I just was so checked out." And Jax—who shares son Cruz , 3, with Brittany—still feels that he just can't "come back" from that, noting that he's "very happy" now and has no intentions of reconciling with his ex. "Brittany and I have changed over the years," he explaine.
