Bangladeshi rock legend James, frontman of the band Nagar Baul, is set to perform in Saudi Arabia, following an exclusive invitation from the Saudi government. The concert, scheduled for November 22 at Al-Suwaidi Park in Riyadh, is part of the "Bangladesh Culture" segment of the high-profile "Riyadh Season," — a cultural festival aimed at showcasing global talent and fostering international exchange. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been leading significant reforms in Saudi Arabia under his Vision 2030 plan, aimed at modernising the conservative kingdom.
Since 2018, restrictions on entertainment have been lifted, reopening cinema halls and launching festivals, concerts, and fashion shows. "Riyadh Season" is part of this cultural shift. This year's "Riyadh Season", organised by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Media, features artistes from nine countries, including Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.
The 45-day event, which began on October 12, will conclude on November 30. Its goal is to foster cultural exchange between Saudi Arabia and the participating South Asian nations. The Saudi government hopes the festival will attract global attention as a major winter entertainment event.
Each participating country is allotted a week to showcase its music, dance, and traditional cuisine. The seventh week, from November 20 to 23, is designated as "Bangladesh Week," highlighting the nation's arts and culture.
