After a 13-year delay between Avatar and its sequel The Way of Water, director James Cameron confirmed he plans to release its subsequent sequels in theatres faster. Now, his vision has been put into motion. The makers had already shot major portions of Avatar 3 and a tad bit of Avatar 4 before the production came to a standstill due to the Hollywood writers’ strike.

The filming resumed a couple of months ago and now we also have an update about the project’s official title. James Cameron along with film leads Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana made an appearance at Disney’s D23 Expo in California on Friday, August 9. They presented the third installment as ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ while also confirming its release date.

James Cameron, in his address to the audience, teased, “The characters are so alive, and it feels so real. It's also got very high emotional stakes — more than ever before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.

" The filmmaker braced fans noting, “The new film is not what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want." Just announced at #D23 , our title for the next Avatar film: Avatar: Fire and Ash. Get ready to journey back to Pandora, in theaters December 19, 2025.
