Wednesday, August 21, 2024 Jacobs has been selected by the King Salman International Airport Development Company to spearhead the design and planning of the King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This ambitious project involves validating the concept masterplan, developing detailed masterplans, designing runways, and providing a range of other services. The masterplan will cover approximately 57 square kilometers and include six parallel runways, cutting-edge terminals, and significant real estate developments.

The airport is envisioned as a vibrant, innovation-driven aerotropolis that promises an exceptional customer experience with top-notch entertainment and operational efficiency. The project is a key component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, aimed at boosting passenger and freight capacity to support a range of major projects. By 2030, the airport is expected to handle up to 100 million passengers annually.

It will emphasize low-carbon design, renewable energy, and technological advancements, with plans to achieve LEED Platinum certification for sustainability and deliver a distinctive travel experience. Jacobs, in partnership with Foster + Partners, previously won the competition to design the concept masterplan for the airport.
