Alan Titchmarsh issues an apology to 'viewers in the north' Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh saw its host apologise to "viewers in the North" ahead of airing a rather controversial clip today. It came as ITV presenter Alan Titchmarsh got ready to introduce show guest Susie Blake. Susie is best known for her portrayal of the snobbish TV announcer in Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV.

Many soap fans will also recognise her as Coronation Street 's Bev Unwin, whom she played between 2003 and 2006, before a brief return in 2015. One of the most famous sketches the late comedian Victoria wrote for Susie was one that Alan thought might anger some northern viewers. However, he played the retro clip nonetheless, with the actress later commenting on the gag.

The famous sketch from Victoria's show, which ran between 1985 and 1987, shows Susie dressed as an unnamed newsreader sitting behind a desk. In the video, the character says the famous phrase: “We'd like to apologise to viewers in the North. It must be awful for them.
