Pune: Burglars broke into a signature couture outlet of prominent fashion designer Nivedita Saboo in a Kalyaninagar villa during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, and stole cash, designer clothes and accessories worth Rs2 lakh in total. The criminals entered the villa by breaking open a washroom window, the police said. Nivedita is the grandniece of NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar and niece of Baramati MP Supriya Sule.
Her brother Vikrant Indulkar (26), a resident of Pashan, lodged a complaint in this connection with the Yerawada police on Wednesday afternoon. Of the stolen property, the cash component was Rs1.57 lakh, and the rest is the cost of 10 stolen men’s designer shirts.
Nivedita told TOI, “The theft came to light when our staffers opened the outlet as usual on Wednesday morning. They realised that the cupboards inside were broken, with cash and some costly men’s shirts missing. The intruders did not touch other custom apparel.
” She added, “Our CCTV cameras have developed a technical snag, but police have recovered footage from CCTVs in neighbouring establishments recording the theft.” Senior inspector Ravindra Shelke of the Yerawada police told TOI, “CCTV footage shows three men reaching the outlet on a motorcycle. They bent open the washroom window to enter.
The intruders were inside for 30 minutes. They drove towards Kalyaninagar bridge and further to Mundhwa. We are trying to ascertain the make of the vehicle and its registration number.
