We often hear the phrase “It is okay not to be okay,” encouraging acceptance of our low moments. However, this idea can lead us to stay stuck in sadness instead of striving for improvement. Life has its ups and downs, but how long should we accept feeling low? DANGER OF ACCEPTANCE In today’s world, social media and popular culture often promote the notion that it is acceptable to wallow in negativity.

While it is important to acknowledge our emotions, we must be careful not to let this mindset become our default. Accepting that it is okay to feel hurt, sad, angry, empty, or demotivated does lead us to reinforce these negative states rather than seeking change. Instead of using our remaining energy to uplift ourselves, we might sink deeper into despair.

There was a time when society encouraged individuals to mask their emotions. While that was harmful, the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction. Now, many people embrace their struggles as their identity, expecting others to adapt to their unhappiness.

This sensitivity can magnify minor issues, making us feel overwhelmed by what would normally be insignificant. A negative comment or a “dislike” can feel devastating. This victim mentality can trap us in sadness, making it harder to seek healing.

CHOICE TO BE OKAY It is crucial to recognise that while feeling sad has become natural, choosing to remain there is detrimental. Each day spent in sadness can create lasting emotional and physical changes in our mind.
