One of Greece's most photographed islands, renowned for its stunning beauty and spectacular sunsets, is facing a business crisis, according to a local tour operator. Greece, with its 6,000 islands and islets - 227 of which are inhabited - is famous for its picturesque landscapes. These islands, boasting beautiful beaches, hidden coves and caves, significant archaeological sites and breathtaking landscapes, draw millions of tourists each year, including many Irish holidaymakers.

One particular island - Santorini - has been a favourite among travellers since the 70s, regularly attracting families, friends and couples with its captivating white-washed houses and exceptional hilltop views of the surrounding azure waters. This year has been no exception. A recent survey by Betfair Casino asking Irish people what holiday hotspots they would most like to visit saw Santorini placed third with 22% of the vote, behind The Caribbean and The Maldives.

While in 2022, Ryanair ranked Santorini in the top three travel destinations for Irish tourists, alongside Lanzarote and Lisbon.
