An 11-year-old Irish girl who died on a family holiday in Spain after she fell from the seventh floor of a hotel in Puerto de Alcudia in the north east of Majorca has been named as Clodagh Phelan from Co Wicklow . The youngster died at around 6.30am on Monday morning following an accident in the Club Mac Hotel.

Paramedics rushed to the assistance of Clodagh and attempted to revive her. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Clodagh was a member of Parnell Athletics Club which is located in Rathdrum in Co Wicklow.

"Clodagh tragically passed away following an accident on holidays. Clodagh was a beautiful, spirited child and a great athlete who excelled in many sports, not just athletics," the statement read.

"Her family Valerie, Liam, Will, and David and extended family are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. As a mark of respect and to allow us all time to grieve the loss of Clodagh, there will be no training until further notice." Glendalough AC, Roundwood and District Athletic Club, Aughrim GAA and Croghan Athletics Club were among the clubs that today also extended their condolences to the Phelan family.
