Weather experts have suggested that the tail end of a hurricane might hit Ireland next week. Tropical storm Ernesto is currently headed towards Bermuda in the Atlantic Ocean and is expected to upgrade to Category 2 hurricane status as it tails around the Caribbean. Ireland could possibly feel the remnants of this stormy weather next week.

Forecaster Alan O'Reilly, of Carlow Weather, said the storm is "one to watch". Weather Alerts Ireland added: "Tropical storm Ernesto is a tropical storm currently moving towards Bermuda and is expected to reach a Cat 2 hurricane.

"After this it may well be picked up by the Jet Stream and pushed towards Ireland. For now it is way too long to say the outcome but the possibility is there for this system to bring wind and rain to Ireland." Meanwhile, Met Eireann says this week's forecast will bring "lots of dry weather overall but with a few showers".

Today (Wednesday August 14) will be warm with a mix of cloud and sunshine. Heavy rain could hit overnight. A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Any mist or fog patches will soon clear to leave a largely dry morning with sunny spells and ju.
