Two Ipswich roads will be closed next week while work is carried out to create a "trail of green" through the town. Suffolk Highways will be carrying out investigation works along Princes Street, St Nicholas Street and Queen Street in advance of the Greener Ipswich Project. The initiative by Ipswich Borough Council, which is supported through the Government's Towns Fund, is expected to improve biodiversity.
Green areas will be added from the Cornhill and through the town centre to Ipswich Waterfront. READ MORE: Roadworks in Ipswich to watch out for over the summer holidays Work will be carried out on Princes Street from Monday, August 12 until Wednesday, August 14 and on St Nicholas Street on Thursday, August 15 and Friday, August 16. For the duration of the works both toads will be closed and traffic will be diverted.
The eastbound diversion for the closure on Princes Street will be Friars Street, Falcon Street, Old Cattle Market, Dogs Head Steet, Upper Brook Street, Tavern Street and Cornhill. While St Nicholas Street is closed traffic will be diverted along St Peters Street, Greyfriars Road and Princes Street.
Works will also be carried out on Queen Street from Wednesday, August 21 until Friday, August 23 but will remain open..
