Jaipur: Jhunjhunu police on Sunday busted an inter-state gang involved in thefts of ATMs after uprooting them and arrested six robbers. The robbers, who are suspected to be involved in several ATM thefts across many states including Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, used luxury vehicles during ATM robberies. A Toyota Fortuner car and tools used for breaking ATMs were seized from their possession.
The six persons were arrested while trying to steal an ATM in Jhunjhunu. SP Sharad Choudhary reported that around 1:30am on Sunday, the Kotwali station received information about a suspicious Fortuner parked near Housing Board homes on Mandrela Road with 5-6 men inside, suspected of planning an ATM break-in. Six criminals were arrested.
They had planned to rob three ATMs in Jhunjhunu and were involved in similar thefts across the state. The police surrounded the vehicle, and upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to planning an ATM robbery near Sagira Circle by holding the guard hostage. A search of the vehicle revealed tools like gas cutters, ropes, screwdrivers, master keys, and iron hammers.
The arrested suspects include Danish alias Naresh (24), Vijay alias Bhanu (25), Hafiz Khan (37), Dharampal (45), Ranveer (35), and Mohanlal (23). The criminals are residents of Alwar, Bikaner, Barmer in Rajasthan, and Nuh in Haryana. One of the arrested, Danish alias Naresh, had been on the run for three months in connection with a Rs 15 lakh robbery in Jhunjhunu.
