Barry Manners has slammed recent photos showing a huge amount of rubbish covering the beautiful Botany Bay in Broadstairs, Kent. The Conservative councillor has hit out at carefree tourists blighting the beach, as well as Thanet District Council (TDC) accused of inaction.

He said that "Wembley-sized crowds" have poured in Broadstairs this summer as visitors flock to Botany Bay for Instagram -perfect photos. The iconic Botany Bay regularly tops the list as one of the most tagged beach locations in the UK. Mr Manners: "The tourist industry is supposed to generate wealth, jobs and all the rest of it for the local economy and instead, we've got a tourist industry that's a branch of South London Social Services.
