A hiker on the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail was extracted by helicopter after falling into the ocean, resulting in a lower limb injury. Alberni Valley Rescue Squad was called out to help the Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue crews and Port Renfrew Fire Department with the injured hiker on the Marine Trail. AVRS shared on Facebook that the hiker had to swim to shore after the fall, where they waited for help.

“Due to the nature of the injury and where the subject was located two members were inserted via Long Line near the subject’s location,” the Facebook post says. “The subject was assessed, the lower limb further splinted and the subject was placed into an evacuation harness. They were long lined to a nearby beach to be further assessed and treated.
