Canadian bookstore chain Indigo is seeking a court injunction ordering internet service providers to block a website that the company says causes the brand “irreparable harm,” while also infringing on its copyright and trademark. Indigo’s lawyers appeared in a virtual Federal Court hearing Sept. 17 to ask a judge for an injunction that would order Canadian telecommunications companies to block two “Indigo Kills Kids” website domains.

com/8DGnLbyyGm — Indigo Kills Kids (@indigokillskids) September 17, 2024 The website incorporates or very closely imitates Indigo’s own visual branding and design, while accusing the company of supporting the Israeli military—and by dint of association, its Gaza war—following the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks in Israel that left 1,200 Israelis dead, in which the more than 40,000 casualties listed by the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry include a reportedly high number of children. The website and related social media accounts are calling for a boycott of the books and music retail chain over CEO Heather Reisman’s Canadian charity, HESEG Foundation, which funds scholarships for lone soldiers from abroad to stay on Israel, following their service, after they join the Israeli military.
