Sven Ahlgrimm, Mathilde Hoffmann The winners of the Indie Cup Europe ‘24 awards have finally been revealed, showcasing the best upcoming projects by independent studios and solo devs across the continent–with plenty of great-looking games sharing the spoils after a hard-fought four-month voting process. Between eight awards, only one game took more than one honor: the gorgeous puzzle adventure Phonopolis , set in a hand-painted 3D world made from cardboard.

However, the night’s biggest award was given to The Darkest Files , a Second World War-era detective game from Paintbucket Games. I was honored to be part of this year’s jury alongside over 100 jurors from the industry, and it’s a surprisingly full-on experience. In my jury category, the Critics’ Choice Award, we had to independently whittle down a list of over 200 hopefuls to just 20, which then went to a shortlist of 11 titles based on selection popularity.

Honestly, 40 or 50 could’ve been in the hunt for the big prize–a testament to the creativity of small teams and solo projects. Still, there can only be so many winners. Here’s who took home the big prizes.
