Saturday, August 24, 2024 India has seen a surge in foreign tourist arrivals (FTAs) in 2024, marking the highest numbers since the pandemic. According to official data analyzed by News18, 47.78 lakh foreign tourists visited India between January and June this year, reflecting a 10 percent increase compared to the 43.
80 lakh tourists during the same period in 2023. In 2019, the foreign tourist arrivals during the first half of the year stood at 52.96 lakh.
The analysis also highlights that the departure of Indian nationals abroad has hit an all-time high in 2024. The mid-year figures show a notable rise in both foreign tourist arrivals and Indian Nationals Departures (INDs) compared to the previous year. During the January-June period of this year, 1.50 crore Indians traveled abroad, compared to 1.32 crore in 2023 and 90 lakh in 2022.
In 2019, the INDs for the first half of the year were 1.33 crore. The UAE was the most popular destination, with nearly one in four Indian travelers heading there.
