Europe has more than 1,000 theme parks, including some of the world's oldest continuously operating theme parks. Industry giants Walt Disney Company and Merlin Entertainment dominate the landscape of parks for thrill-seekers, but there's one theme park in Germany that's a family-run affair. The Europa-Park Resort opened in the summer of 1975, and today, the family-run park is the most popular tourist destination in the country, and the biggest of its kind.

It attracts visitors worldwide, including one thrill-seeker from the UK who has branded Europa Park "one of the best theme parks I [she] has ever been to". Taking to Tripadvisor to share her delight over the park, which is located in Rust, south-west Germany , Sophie from Southampton said: "As a rollercoaster enthusiast, I have been to most of the theme parks in Europe and many across the world." She continued: "I have to say that this theme part is in my top five due to the magic that you experience whilst here.

I would even go as far as to say that it is up there with the likes of Disney parks !" While most people spend a day or two exploring the attractions, Sophie opted for a five-night stay to make the most of the attractions. On-site, visitors will find 13 roller coasters in different 'areas' such as Russia , Iceland and Croatia, the oldest being the Alpenexpress Mine Train, where a powered coaster speeds through a diamond mine. The newest coaster is Voltron Nevera powered by Rimac, and the park is also home to a wate.
