Martin Seeley, Sleep Expert at MattressNextDay , has issued three warnings regarding a new viral bed trend he says people should avoid. Bouclé beds is an interior trend which has seen a staggering 20 million views on TikTok, and Google searches have increased a huge 86% since last year. People are flocking to buy bouclé bedding, which is made of loops of yan which are interwoven to create a textured, knotted surface.

Bouclé has really gained popularity over the past year, and is used on a range of products - from cushions to soft home furnishings. But when it comes to beds, Martin doesn't recommend using the bedding - no matter how beautiful it is. The thick fabric is not only difficult to clean, but it can make it harder to sleep.

"One of the risks of choosing bouclé as your bed fabric is that it often piles and snags extremely easily," he explained. "Simple things like long, sharp nails or jewellery can cause snagging which diminishes the quality of the bed frame almost instantly, so those planning to invest need to take care not to damage it for it to stand the test of time." Instead, Martin recommends choosing bedding that has "more durable fabric that doesn't need constant care" to prevent damage.

According to the sleep expert, bouclé is also one of the warmest fabrics, so it's not ideal for sleeping. He said: "For those that struggle to sleep in the summer months, when the temperature starts to rise, bouclé beds might not be the best choice for you. Bouclé.
