P erched on one of the many hundreds of air-conditioning units I could see sticking out of this particular block of flats in Hong Kong — one of the millions of units across the city — was a square of Astroturf. Was this tongue-in-cheek? Or did it represent a genuine attempt to find some green in one of the most dense cities in the world? A few floors down from the Astroturf was a stray pair of knickers. No clue from which of the myriad ad hoc drying contraptions it might have fallen.
