An illegal rave is believed to have been held overnight and into the early hours of the morning at a historic landmark. The rave is believed to have happened at Liverpool Castle in Rivington over Saturday night and into Sunday morning on October 26 to 27. Members of the Horwich Clean Up Brigade arrived on Sunday morning, many of them having heard noise from the rave late into the night.

Ian Rotherham said: “The guys looks like they’ve done a good job of clearing it up. “I could went to bed at about 10.30pm last night and I could hear it then, I’d have thought it would be too cold and wet for them! 30am when I eventually went to sleep, and I could still hear it then.” He said that the group had collected several bags of rubbish that appeared to have been left over.” Horwich Clean Up Bridge member Ray Scholes said that his wife had been kept awake into the early hours of Sunday morning.

It appeared that the police may have made some of the ravers clear up after themselves. People passing by Rivington last night also reported seeing what appeared to be a rave.
