Pune: The international group fellowship training programme on “forecasters competency development” was inaugurated at the Meghdoot auditorium of Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pashan on Monday. It was inaugurated by M. Ravichandran, secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences.

The programme is being organised by India Meteorological Department (IMD) and World Meteorological Organisation. Dr R Krishnan, director, IITM, emphasised the significance of enhancing weather prediction competencies and timely dissemination of information. Dr M.

Mohapatra, DGM, IMD, and K.S. Hosalikar, head of climate research & services, IMD, participated at the event.

Altogether 16 forecasters from 15 countries and 10 forecasters from IMD are participating at the programme from August 26 to September 27. Climate data archival and distribution system server at CCCR, IITM was launched at the inaugural event. Several IMD reports were presented.
