There's nothing quite like a British festival. Warm cans of cider, grim portaloo toilets and let's not get started on the mud. But nestled in the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District, I think I might have attended one of the most picturesque festivals that's perfect for families.

Even better, it's less than a two hour drive from Liverpool. Kendal Calling festival, located in Lowther, offers an incredible line-up of musicians and bands every year. This year's line-up included Paolo Nutini, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Sugababes and even a DJ set from former footballer Gary Neville.

Away from the music, the festival had a variety of different experiences that catered to both young and old. From the rowdiness of the Oktoberfest bar to the calmness of the Picturehouse Cinema with showings including Muppets Treasure Island and The Spongebob Squarepants Movie. Olympic-themed £3.

50 maze near Liverpool perfect for families is open this summer 22 of the best parks in Liverpool we're lucky to have on our doorstep I visited Kendal Calling festival with a group of friends and one couple's toddler, which made for an entirely different festival experience to the ones I remember in my late teens. After the dreaded hike to the festival gates, we set up camp among the peace and tranquillity of the family area. This area is about a ten minute walk from the main arena.

As an incredibly light sleeper, the thought of spending several nights next to other campers wasn't exactly ap.
