Victory Community Park has reopened its gates to locals this week following a year of renovations by Southwark Council. Southwark Council spent £1.05 million on the East Walworth park improvement works, which included major landscaping and refurbishment of the park’s amenities.

MyLondon visited the park the day after it was officially opened, where passers-by, dog-walkers, and parents with children had already started to take advantage of its amenities. The park, which is less than a 10 minute walk from Elephant and Castle Underground station, essentially adjoins Elephant Park through Ash Avenue, a wide pedestrian footpath which boasts cafés and restaurants including Kokoro, Four Hundred Rabbits, and Cheeky Chicos. While Elephant Park and Ash Avenue can get busy at lunchtime and later in the afternoon, Victory Park remains a hidden gem.

With its new picnic tables and wide lawn, it is a prime spot to get away from the bustle and ongoing construction works in the Elephant Park development. The works also created new wildflower meadows in a bid to improve biodiversity and built new entrances to improve safety for pedestrians.
