Learn more With winding cobbled streets, impressive gothic architecture and surrounding vistas across rolling green hills toward the Firth of Forth, Edinburgh is famous for its beauty. It's no surprise that the city attracts an average of four million domestic and international visitors annually, making it one of Scotland 's top destinations.

But it's not just the picturesque surroundings and rich history that lure people in from overseas. According to a study by LNER , Edinburgh made it onto the top 10 list of "friendliest cities ", with friendly locals and welcoming faces making the Scottish city a perfect place for visitors. The city was also previously named "best city to visit" in 2022 by the Time Out Index .

Perhaps it's the walkability of the city or the vast amount of green space which stretches between ancient buildings that make it such a draw. But, with plans to be in Scotland for a wedding, I decided to extend my trip so that I could enjoy an additional 48 hours in the Scottish capital city. Having been to Edinburgh before, one of my favourite things to do is simply wander through the streets, and soak up the beautiful detail of its historic buildings - many of which date back around 900 years.

Just walking around Edinburgh there are so many historic buildings.
