AMAZING and vibrant shades of purple, green and pink filled the night sky as stargazers were treated to another fantastic display of the Northern Lights. The Aurora Borealis was visible by camera and the naked eye above York and beyond overnight. Many readers took photos and shared them with our news team - either posting them via email overnight or dropping them into our Press Camera Club page on Facebook.

We are sharing a selection of them with you today. One reader - Paul 'Mortz' Mortimer - is a self-styled aurora hunter and visits Iceland several times a year to photograph the aurora. Remarkably, overnight, he captured the Northern Lights from his doorstep in York.

Along with his beautiful set of photos which he posted in our Camera Club he wrote: "Leeman Road Ings, York, down by the river tonight one hour ago near midnight 12th August, 50 metres from my front door...
