With Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered set to launch on PC and modern consoles this October, we sat down with industry legends Suda51 and Shinji Mikami to discuss bringing its madness to a whole new audience. You know when you’re responsible for kicking off such blockbuster Japanese franchises as Resident Evil , No More Heroes , Dino Crisis, and Killer 7, you’ve earned a lot of respect and greatness within the video game industry. This is exactly the case for Grasshopper Manufacture head, Goichi Suda, (commonly known as Suda51) and legendary Capcom alumnus, Shinji Mikami, who in 2011 teamed up to make one of the most punk rock, third-person action titles players had ever seen.

Appropriately named Shadows of the Damned, it centred on the tale of demon hunter Garcia Hotspur venturing to hell in the hopes of rescuing his girlfriend. Shadows of the Damned is set to receive the remaster treatment on October 31, 2024 in a version dubbed Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, bringing with it 60fps support, 4K visuals, and four all-new outfits for Garcia to wear. In celebration of Garcia Hotspur’s hellish ride returning on top form, it was the perfect time to chat with writer Suda51 and producer Shinji Mikami about their time working on the original game, how game development has changed in the years since, as well as what’s in store for players jumping in for the first time now.

Suda51: We're really stoked about being able to have people play the game for the first .
