More info When visiting a city you’re not familiar with it can be hard to know where to book, especially if you’re looking for a hotel that delivers quality, value for money and a great location – which is why The Reach at Piccadilly in Manchester is a real gem.

Barely a three-minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly train station, four-star hotel The Reach opened in July this year and offers style and character without breaking the bank. Part of Marriott Hotels’ Tribute Portfolio, its design is inspired by the city’s rich industrial history – something that’s easy to visualise as you look out over the adjacent Rochdale Canal while you enjoy your morning (locally roasted) coffee. The Reach’s rooms are modern, comfy and elegant, many with small balconies overlooking the canal; I loved the little touches in ours like a giant monstera plant in the corner, a pillow mist by the bed and bathroom toiletries made using charcoal (another nod to the Industrial Revolution).
