70 per can which is pricey, especially if you’re whipping up a meal for more than one person. So intrepid gourmet Zoe Chamberlain, Parenting Editor of our sister title Birmingham Live , decided to do a taste test. With budget soups from Morrisons , Aldi and Lidl costing significantly less than the Heinz alternative, Zoe set out to see which were worth the money and which were best left on the supermarket shelf.
Heinz Tomato Soup Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup costs £1.70 from Morrisons for 400g, which works out to 85p per half can portion. By contrast, in April 2022, this same can cost just £1, so these days its become a bit of a luxury.
Zoe said: “This had the most powerful tomato flavour of all the cans. It tasted fresher, more like homemade soup with fresh vine-ripened tomatoes. “Reading the ingredients on the tin, it's easy to see why.
It contains 89 percent tomatoes, cream and herb and spice extracts. Per half can portion, it contains 9.7g of sugar, 1.
1g of salt and 1.7g of protein. I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.
