Monday, August 5, 2024 On October 26, train services between Hong Kong’s Tung Chung and Sunny Bay stations are scheduled to close two hours early. This suspension is necessary for major track diversion work connected to the route’s extension project. According to the MTR Corporation, services on the Tung Chung line will end early that day, with the last train from Hong Kong station departing at 11.

07 pm and the final service from Tung Chung leaving at 11.01 pm. While regular services will resume the next day, the airport express services will remain unaffected.

Lesly Leung Po-po, the project manager for the Tung Chung line extension, emphasized the significance of this diversion work, noting it as one of the largest undertaken by the company in the past decade. The MTR Corporation has urged travelers to plan their journeys ahead of time and assured that free shuttle buses would be available to fill the service gaps during the suspension. Ben Lui Gon-yee, the MTR Corp’s airport segment chief, indicated that the move would likely affect only a small number of passengers based on past passenger flow data.

Temporary shuttle buses will operate at intervals of two to three minutes to mitigate inconvenience. This measure aligns with the company’s proactive approach to managing the impacts of such significant infrastructure projects. The extension project commenced in May of the previous year and is projected to be completed by 2029.
