A new rom-com documentary tells a new story about marriage equality. This time, it’s for those with disabilities. “ Patrice: The Movie ” is available to stream now on Hulu.

Watch it on Hulu with a free trial or with the Disney Bundle . Patrice Jetter describes herself as a totally cool person, with a disability, who could do most anything. Anything, except marry the love of her life while maintaining the same Social Security benefits.

In her late 50s, Jetter met Garry Wickham, who is also disabled. The two fell in love, and Wickham popped the question, hoping to start a life together. But, before they could take that step, they were informed that getting married or even moving in together means a cut in Social Security benefits and likely losing Medicaid.

Instead, the pair opted for a commitment ceremony. “ Patrice: The Movie ” follows the couple after making the risky decision, which could still impact their benefits and future. Along the way, Jetter plays herself, recreating her formative moments in theatrical fashion.

Watch the film to learn Jetter and Wickham’s story, and uncover what is being done in the next battle for marriage equality..
